Imithayelanga (Sun Rays) is a research guided youth development NGO based in East London, South Africa.
The organisation undertakes select programmes that will have a lasting impact. The projects range from small scale youth interventions to large scale provincial or national initiatives.
The NGO was founded in 2011 and has an impressive list of clients and donors.
In the competitive world of obtaining donor funding we continue to thrive because we take great pride in the work that we do.
We ascribe much of our own success to the partners we associate with each of which is a leader in their field of expertise.

Thought-Based Approach
Life Skills Programmes
Reducing School Dropouts
Our life skill programmes continue to reach over 3000 young people in various communities and schools. We have seen a significant reduction in the number of school drop outs of the years. In some schools we have had a 50% reduction in the number of young people dropping out of school.
Youth Facilitators
Agents of Change
Each community we work in has youth facilitators. These youth facilitators are trained to facilitate individual growth, particularly with those youth that experience social challenges from time to time. The purpose is to 'fast track' self understanding and personal maturity of those we assist. The majority of our youth facilitators get appointed as assistant teachers.
Career Guidance
Driving Throughput
We are a research and implementation agent for PACE Career Centre (SA). Our work in career guidance impacts youth from as early as grade 7 right through to grade 12. We work closely with the Eastern Cape Education Department to facilitate the annual Career Dress Up Day and work with schools to improve subject choice selection in grade 9 and career choices made in grade 12. South Africa needs graduates who can pay taxes and career guidance is great enabler in promoting throughput.

Post-Secondary Support
Socialising Leaders
Free post-secondary education has provided the opportunity for a better life for so many. Whilst Government does their level best to assist in all that it can there are real stories of students living in substandard accommodation, using food allowances to travel home, feel socially excluded because they are unable to participate in the sporting and social life activities, etc. Our Post-Secondary Support programme raises funds to assist students to maximise their experiences at tertiary study. A confident graduate make a stronger leader.
